Firecrackers in the Attic (Artist Book + Card Collection)
This editorial project is a tribute to the awakening of homosexual desire during adolescence that takes its inspiration from Alain-Fournier’s novel "Le Grand Meaulnes" (The Lost Estate).
In the novel, Alain-Fournier projects himself in a teenage triad's coming-of-age tale: from Frantz, the whimsically romantic, to Augustin, the eternal youth, and above all François, the nostalgic boy. In the light of a new reading of "The Lost Estate" in the 21st century, It seems inevitable that we should see a form of romantic longing in their complex interactions.
This artist's book sheds light on the different layers of homoerotic subtext suggested by Fournier. The first chapter offers a visual rendition of an intimate moment shared by the narrator and the title character, while the second explores the first encounter between Augustin and Frantz de Galais, at the heart of a mysterious domain.
